T-54/55

T-55A on display at IWM Duxford.

As it is almost impossible to distinguish an refitted T-54 from an T-55, I am using the common title of T-54/55. The T-54/55 was produced in the Soviet State arsenals. It was also built under license in Czechoslovakia and Poland ( identifiable by the stowage box on the left hand side of the turret.)  with little difference between them.

VARIANTS:
T-54: Armed with 100mm D-10T gun. Two cupolas, Latter versions fitted with 12.7mm DShK A/A HMG. Fitted with Bow MG. T-55AM:  Extra shielding against radiation fitted to commanders cupola.
T-54A: 1955/56. Armed with 100mm D-10TG with stabilization. T-55AK: Command Tank
T-54B: 1957/58. Infra-red night fighting equipment. Re-armed with 100mm D-10T2S gun. Flame thrower:
T-54C: Right hand cupola removed and replaced with a hatch that opens forward. No A/A MG. (note: All T-54s have a turret dome ventilator in front of the loaders hatch.) BTS:  Armoured Recovery vehicle of which various versions exist.
T-55: 1961. Similar in appearance to T-54C but no dome ventilator. MTU: Bridge layer:
T-55A:  1963. No Bow fitted MG.
