Variants:
Mk I: Original production model armed with an 6-pdr gun, similar in appearance to Centaur I. Mk VII (Above): Mk IV re-worked with appliqué armour welded on the front & re-worked suspension
Mk II: Mk I modified by removal of hull machine gun and wider tracks fitted. Mk VIIw: Mk Vw modified to Mk VII standards.
Mk III: Centaur I re-engined with a Meteor engine to bring it to A27M standards. Originally designated Cromwell X Mk VIII: Mk VI modified to Mk VIIw standards.
Mk IV: Re-engined Centaur III with a Meteor engine and armed with an 75mm gun. Command/OP: Mk IV,VI or VIII fitted with dummy gun and extra radio equipment.
Mk IVw:  As Mk IV but with all welded hull & built with Meteor engine. CIRD: Vehicle modified to take Canadian Indestructible Roller Device mine exploding equipment
Mk Vw: As Mk IV but with all welded hull Prong: Standard vehicle fitted with an Cullin hedgerow cutting device.
Mk VI CS: As Mk IV but armed with an 95mm Howitzer (Close Support) Charioteer: An Post-War (1950) conversion of existing Cromwell's with a new Turret and 20-pdr gun.
